Yes I know it's almost impossible to pull off the electronic games and social media (this goes for both parents and kids) yet', it's time to look up from our phones and enjoy some quality times with our loved ones.
Add up to the importance of getting active. Healthy kids = Healthy Families. Physical activity is important for both children and adults of all ages. Adults need 2 1/2 hours a week of physical activity and children need 60 minutes a day!
Also Physical activity builds a great foundation for a healthy life. It's a win/win event for you and your child.
Not to mention the added bonus! A great quality time and creating lots of memories with your loved ones, something to appreciate for years to come.
Read on as we will share with you some great ideas for a Fun Family Summer time.
Time together is time that's treasured.
Plan Ahead: Write down your activity plan (let the kids help in with ideas). Keep track and tick off those you were able to accomplish.
Plan for all weather conditions: Choose activities that don't depend a lot on weather conditions.
Turn Off the T.V: SET a RULE that no one can spend more than 2 hours/day watching TV,using the laptop, or playing games.
Set specific activity time: Choose time slots throughout the week when the whole family is available. Devote a few of these times to physical, water, home activity....
An easy and wallet-friendly way to get out of the house and have fun with your family is to go hiking.
Your whole family will get some much-needed cardio exercise, and at the same time, enjoy nature and its refreshing effects.
Here are some tips for hiking with kids.
- Have good footwear!
- Pack lots and lots of snacks! Kids need lots of snacks and fluids to stay hydrated.
- Plan a hike that has interesting things to look at it whether it ends at a lake, waterfall, or cool peak.
- Keep the hike simple and build up miles as the summer passes.
- Let kids explore. Remember the journey is the destination. If your kids want to stop and poke around, let them. This is supposed to be about slowing things down anyway!
2. Create a Scavenger Hunt:
Even if you are living in the same place, you can still create your own scavenger and look for unusual features around your area. Scavenger hunts are also a fun way for families to explore new area together. Things to look for might include new landmarks, new plants and animals, favorite food or restaurants, unique features of a neighborhood, colorful things...
You could even create tasks to accomplish for the scavenger hunt, Get creative, your only limit is time!
Although I know not everyone have the luxury to have their own garden, yet you can still enjoy this amazing activity using small planting pots on your own balcony!
The kids will have fun helping to pick out the different flowers and plants to put in the pot. You could even plant a vegetable or herb plants, to show your kids where food comes from.
4. Hit the Water
Whether it’s a pool, lake, or beach, swimming is an ideal way to fit in fun exercise. Swimming has many benefits, from improving flexibility and increasing muscle tone to strengthening the heart and relieving stress. As a family, you can play a lot of games in the water. In the pool, you can dive for items or race with laps. At a beach, you can enjoy building sand castles, or you play with a ball, or frisbee. Our favorite beach activity is jumping in the waves.
Of course, children should be always supervised and avoid heat strokes.
5. Visit a Museum:
Museums might be a boring activity to some but they are actually ideal places for a fun family afternoon. They are a great source to show little ones historical facts, and engage them in fun activities.
Biking is a fun activity that can be done almost anywhere it's also great cardiovascular exercise that strengthens several muscles, including your core, and can improve balance. Whenever possible, head out to a bike-friendly spot, put on your helmets, and enjoy a great outdoor fun times.
7. Family-Friendly Walk:
It’s becoming more and more common to see whole families out for 5K walks and run. Family races is becoming more and more common. So start out with Family-friendly walk (or jog) as means of training prior for the event which also offers more opportunity to spend time together as a family and get regular exercise. You can enjoy a walk in nature, in the park, or even a mall!
8. PLAN A PICNIC & Explore Nature:
Plan a small picnic and make it special. Pack a favorite food for everyone. Grab a blanket, a ball, some bubble toys, a game of checkers, or anything you can enjoy together as a family for some fun bonding time. Pick a pretty place where the kids can explore Nature too.
9. Indoor Family time:
There are lots of ideas to enjoy fun family time around the house or indoor places. You can play board games together, engage in a new craft, drawing or coloring time, watch a family movie together, or share a small culinary activity.
Or you can go to an indoor playground, movies, bowling arena, skating, and much more!
10. Family Adventures
Go sightseeing, fishing, and fruit-picking. Discover the public parks. Visit the zoo. Explore outdoor tourist attractions. Plan an active get-away.
In the end it's all about Creating family traditions and lasting memories.
