I don't like to consider myself the nagging type!! Yes, I do rant out from time to time! However, I feel I have to talk this one out..... For the past month we've been dealing and struggling with Viruses!! They were of-course transmitted by other people and most probably KIDS!
and I can say I'm literally FED UP!!

Our 1st ordeal was last month in December when my son caught a bacteria called streptococcus bacteria which later transferred into Scarlet Fever (learn more about it here)  and we had to go on Antibiotics and stay low to prevent contagious outbreak!!! For a child who has scarlet fever can spread the bacteria to others through nasal and throat fluids by sneezing and coughing !! His sister caught it afterwards and thankfully we finished the treatment on Christmas Day and we were able to breath out a bit!

Then came NEW Year.... my kids got sick again!!! They came down with a FLU....It's natural... being the FLU season..drastic change of weather, and most probably their immunity was still LOW after only recovering shortly from the 1st fever! We mothers experience a varied array of emotions when our precious child is sick; conflicting emotions that pull our hearts in different directions.

So we were facing all the regular FLU symptoms...
Running nose - High fever - tiredness - low appetite and gradually started coughing! Minding  you that we have spent our entire Christmas Holiday at home or Grandparents home, only went out occasionally and avoided closed small areas! Not to mention Schools were off till just last Thursday... on which I sent my kid after he showed improvement at home! however, school nurse called saying his fever went back up and logically kept him home on Friday!!

All was well, and we were excited that coming Monday we are finally going back to school when Monday morning @ 4:00 a.m my son woke up screaming from pain and his cheek was swollen!!

Naturally, I freaked out on the scene, woke up my hubby, who instantly got dressed and took him to the ER!!
I already shared details and my feelings on that Day in my previous BLOG
(feel free to reread it
here)

Any mother hates seeing her children ill; we wish we could wave a wand to instantly heal their tiny bodies or take their place to free them from the discomfort.

So we did the blood tests and we had
2 possibilities..either he got a:
  1. viral infection in his glands
  2. or MUMPS!!!
TOO SICK for SCHOOL?

Of course there was no way I would send him to school especially not knowing which is he got, and risk infecting lots of kids!! We stayed HOME!! We all got sick again, after being coughed on, and sneezed on while they are co-sleeping in our bed!!!

With us it was just the FLU..My son was suffering the most, pain hit  his ear hard and was on medication all 3 days..which meant no sleeping or resting for us!

That's of course fingers crossed that by the time last 1 of US recovers the 1st won't get sick again!!!

Personally, I believe PARENTS should know..when to KEEP their SICK children at HOME...and when to send to School!!

They told US in the ER that his Blood results will be out on Wednesday and if not confirmed for Mumps he can go back to school on Thursday..so imagine my feeling, my frustration and my struggle when I called to check for his results and all what I got was are you sure he did them cause we can't find them on the system?

We added another 2 days at home!!! Only another parent who is stuck home for an entire WEEK with 2 sick kids can relate and understand the agony!! We're ALL cranky, bored and feeling down, and the weight of not knowing what he got was heavy!!

Finally Today results were OUT...Turned out he was positive for MUMPS!!!

I am still clueless how or where he got it from...But of course he caught it from another KID while playing!!
You can learn ALL about MUMPS here
Now we have to wait for his body to cool down before we rush him for his BOOSTER MMR Vaccine to prevent him getting Measles!!

I’ll feel frustrated when I have to constantly keep assuring my sobbing kids (who are crying out of pain) that soon it will all be over while I myself am wondering...Shouldn’t this flu have passed over by now?! Is there something more I should be doing that could help them recover faster? The guilt, the pain, the emotions from the entire sickness ride is just to overwhelming for every parent and too painful for the little kids!!

So please my other fellow parents.....kindly be a bit more considerate next time you feel 1 of your kids might be coming down with a FLU! Keep teaching them how to prevent spreading their GERMS around so other KIDS (and even adults) won't catch them and end up with 1 Nasty Virus that will ruin an entire week!

Till then wishing all SICK Kids a speed recovery and hope you all get better and healthy soon!
