Family Staycation @Castel Mare Hotel

9/7/2017

With summer coming to an end there is little time left to enjoy those famous Beach Hotels and Resorts that are scattered across our Lebanese Mediterranean Shore!

Our latest destination was a family getaway at Castel Mare Beach Hotel & Resort

Honestly, we are not new to this place, as we've tried it for the first time almost 3 years ago!

However and unfortunately speaking, our experience this time was not the same!

Well first let's start with the good things simply because (and as with all our getaways) we love to focus on the memories every place generates... for us it's the nice quality family times!

Castle Mare is perfectly situated along the rocky coast, with only 1hr drive from Beirut

A huge marbled floor Lobby, and friendly staff are ready to welcomes you.

Underground parking is available as well to free WiFi!

The resort offers a private sea access, an outdoor medium sized pool and another family / kid's pool. They have a Lebanese seafood restaurant with a great view!

Standard Room

We booked last minute, thus the only available rooms were a standard room with mountain view option.

We checked in late..past 2:30 p.m and none of the rooms were ready!

We received our keys and went up to the 4th floor and the ladies were still cleaning it and they left the bedsheets of the 2 next door rooms till the other day!

Room accommodation featured a contemporary decor with parquet floor and a nice blend of colors.

It had a modern leather sofa, a flat LCD T.V. a mini fridge, safety deposit box, and room amenities (bathroom needs more maintance). However, there was only 2 pillows and 2 towels in the room, although I have stated I have my 2 kids along!

Bed was comfortable however electricity kept going on and off all night long and A.C doesn't switch automatically; thus we ended having a sleepless night!

Hotel Venue

Venue was really nice, we enjoyed walking around, how un-crowded the pool was, and overall ambiance was nice.

A rocky strip of land that extends into the sea can be accessed by foot and via a bridge.

My kid's loved the walking on the rock experience and swimming with the million of fish under them!
It was indeed a priceless sight, add up that the water was cold and refreshing.

However, the level of chlorine in the pool was too much! We all left home with an irritable skin rash and it was a major discomfort!

Food

Here comes the bad part, the FOOD!!

Food was beyond avearge, especially that we are comparing it to our previous visit and not to other nearby hotels with the same standards!

Our first bad experience was with the beach cafe. 4:00 p.m and by then we were famished!

We ordered chicken and meat burgers (Honestly how bad can a burger be??)

Trust me my 6 years old son who had no food since breakfast couldn't finish his meat burger!

I forced myself to eat as much as I can simply becuase we paid 14,000 L.L / platter and I wasn't going to throw my plate as well!

Then the lousy food experience was repeated the next day during the Buffet Breakfast!

By the time we went down to the lobby at 8:30 a.m the buffet was already almost empty!

The waiter looked overloaded and not capable of keeping up with people's side orders (they need to add staff especially during a fully booked weekend!)
  • The breal was stale.
  • The Scrambled eggs and beans were cold!
  • And the food variety was limited and poor.

It was a real disappointed especially that I've previously reviewed them with generous breakfast.

View

The priceless view which smoothed out our experience.
