Yes... We all know that social media addiction is spreading out like crazy and it's constantly on the rise!
Nowadays, Nothing is private, and almost everyone knows everything about everyone else...
I myself am a heavy social media user, (due to my media channels and blog). As much as I like to share lots of information with my followers; yet when it comes to my family I try so hard to maintain as much privacy as possible.
So when I recently updated my snapchat I had no idea about their hidden feature...
SNAPCHAT UPDATE INTRODUCED A NEW SNAP MAP LOCATION SHARING FEATURE
What does this Means?
Well, here's something else that it does which many might not be aware off! SNAPMAPS means that as well as users will be able to see exactly where their friends are they can also see what they are doing!!
This raised lots of concerns!!
With this feature, Snap Maps shows exactly where you are every time you open the APP!! This may results in dangerous scenarios such as...If you are home or walking alone on the street and opened the app to view your friend's stories you will also be sharing your status being alone as well your location! In these vulnerable situations, if you have Snap Map enables, your location will be broadcasted to some or lots of people in your snapchat friend's list!
Other main concern was raised by Parents worried about their children who uses snapchat without knowing dangers of this feature!
This could lead to stalking or Bullying! Thus it's important to be careful whom you share your location with as it can allow people to build up a picture where you live, which school you attend, and where you spend your time at!
Here's the video my friend shared!
Users are able to pick whether they want to make their location visible to all of their friends, a select few, or nobody at all (a setting known as “ghost mode”).
If you want to disable Snap Map, select “Ghost Mode” upon Snapchat’s initial walkthrough. If you’ve already enabled location sharing for Snap Map, tap the settings gear in the top right while viewing the Map, and select Ghost Mode from there.
Another side note: It’s also impossible to share your location with someone who isn’t already your friend on Snapchat, and the majority of interactions on Snapchat take place between close friends.”
NEVERTHELESS, WE SHOULD ALWAYS BE CAREFUL WHAT WE SHARE AND HOW MUCH WE SHARE ON SOCIAL MEDIA BECAUSE NOTHING IS PRIVATE AT ALL!!!
